NHS continuing healthcare is the name given to a package of care which is arranged and funded solely by the NHS for individuals outside of hospital who have ongoing healthcare needs. You can receive continuing healthcare in any setting, including your own home or a care home. NHS continuing healthcare is free, unlike help from social services for which a financial charge may be made depending on your income and savings.

The following documents give details of both local and national guidance for NHS Continuing Healthcare.

Feedback on refreshed redress guidance

The National Redress Guidance for continuing healthcare is being updated by NHS England.  The current guidance on redress for NHS CHC cases was published by the Department of Health in 2007, however the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has revised its own guidance “Principles for Remedy” on this area and the refreshed Guidance reflects this.

The draft refreshed Guidance maintains the same basic principles of fairness that has always applied; that is to  ensure that individuals are put back in the financial position that they should have been in. The draft Guidance does not remove the requirement for CCGs to consider the specific circumstances of each individual case when determining the appropriate level of redress.

They have a draft refreshed guidance and are asking for members of the public to give them feedback.  More information can be found by clicking here.  The guidance is available and open to feedback until 19th March 2015.
