What do you want your local NHS services to be like? How do you want them to run? What do you want them to offer?
We need the help of patients, carers and local people in designing, developing and reviewing the services we buy. There are lots of ways to help us, but the easiest way is to join our ‘Shape Your NHS Community’.
What is the Shape Your NHS Community?
The Shape Your NHS Community has been developed to enable patients, carers and the public to work together with us to better understand and help shape local health services. Membership is open to individuals and to groups.
Our members are very important to us. You can tell us how services currently work for the people who use them and how they could be improved. You can give us new ideas. You can help services be more effective, more efficient and, most importantly, more patient friendly. What you share with us helps us make the right decisions and shape local services.
You don’t have to be currently using NHS services to be a member and you don’t have to commit to anything. If you sign up to be member, you will be sent information about your local NHS, and offered opportunities to fill out surveys, come along to events and workshops, or be involved with patient groups and service redesigns.
We will keep you up-to-date with what is happening at your CCG and will let you know how your feedback has helped shape local health services. What happens if I sign up as a Community Member?
As a Community Member your contact details will be held securely by the CCG. We will only use the information you provide for the purposes of the membership scheme and will not share your details with anyone else.
You can choose how you want to be involved, your preferred contact methods and you can tell us if there are any particular areas you are interested in e.g. you may have an interest in diabetes services or in patient education.
To help make sure that we only send you information you are interested in, you can choose what level of membership you are interested in:
- Level 1 - At this level we will keep you up to date you will receive newsletters. This is a simple way of being involved with the Wigan Borough CCG and being aware of our activities, without having to attend meetings. It will also allow you to stay up-to-date with the health topics that interest you.
- Level 2 - This level will include level 1 involvement and also gives you the opportunities to attend CCG public meetings / forums / focus groups occasionally. You may also be asked to complete regular surveys on health related topics. Membership at this level gives you a chance to share your ideas and views about local health services
- Level 3 - This level includes involvement from levels 1 and 2 but also gives the opportunity to be deeply involved in the planning, purchasing and monitoring of health services. This level may involve taking part in activities such as working with CCG team members on a redesign project, working with groups on health awareness campaigns, depending on what you prefer. We will provide you with training and support to help you get involved at this level and will meet out of pocket expenses.
- Young Person’s Membership – We are already working with a number of groups of young people to find out what they want from health services that matter to them. If you belong to a group and would like to work with us, please get in touch.
How much time will I need to give?
As a Community Member you can give as little or as much time as you like, and can get involved at whatever level feels right for you. If you want, you can choose to only receive information, or you can choose to be much more involved and give more time – it really is your choice. We also offer to reimburse travel costs for most of our activities.

What we do with your details
We will never share your contact details with anyone. We store them securely and only contact you about opportunities to engage with us in improving local health services.
